PLEASE READ THIS:
†† I do not know if the Vicar: the Rev. R. Goodrick was over worked; having difficulties with literacy; or just feeling
down right lazy, but there is evidence that after 11 May 1761 and before 27 December 1762, he abandoned the
format for each entry in this marriages register, and only acquired the signatures or marks of the Grooms; Brides
and Witnesses. It looks as if his name is not always in the same hand either, so perhaps it wasn't him but one
of the church wardens who he had designated to do the job on his behalf. If Banns were read, and I emphasise that,
I have included the dates (where given) so that you, the researcher, will know that the marriage took place sometime
after that date. A new curate, Rev. Edward Fisher took over conducting the marriage services from
27 December 1762, and records returned to normal again.
If the Parish names were given in the Banns Register but not in the marriages register, I have included them
in Red, to show that. However, after searching the Banns Register, I find that in the majority of cases,
no record was made of banns being read at all during the period 11 May 1761 to 27 December 1762.
There are several other differences of names or spelling which are also shown in Red.
If a second entry for the same couple are being quoted, the those differences wil be in Blue.
Entry No's.182 to 188 are duplicated on Pages 48 to 49. The information for each one however, is different.
